After being invited to bat first, Ravichandran Ashwin-led Dindigul scored 160/8 in their 20 overs on the back of Shivam Singh's 78 off 51 balls. In reply, Trichy were restricted to 144/8 as Ashwin starred with figures of 3/18 in his four overs.

Meanwhile, Salem Spartans didn't have an ideal start to their campaign as they suffered a four-wicket loss to Siechem Madurai Panthers in their first match. The high-scoring encounter saw Shijit Chandran's side scoring 180/7 in their 20 overs after R Kavin and Vishal Vaidhya slammed sparkling half-centuries. In reply, Suresh Lokeshwar and Jagatheesan Kousik scored half-centuries before Murugan Ashwin's cameo took Madurai home with three balls to spare.

After finishing seventh last season, Spartans would have hoped for a winning start to this year's campaign. However, with six games more to play, they shouldn't be too perturbed after one defeat. Meanwhile, Dindigul, who lost in Qualifier 2 last year, will look to build on their win in the first game.
