After beating Uttar Pradesh by 58 runs in the second quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Maharashtra side will now challenge Assam for a spot in the finals of the competition.
Assam in the meantime defeated Jammu and Kashmir by seven wickets while chasing a mammoth target of 351 runs in the quarter-finals. All-rounder Riyan Parag along with Rishav Das thrashed the opponent as they chased the total down with 23 balls left. The 21-year-old Parag, who’s in sublime form at the moment, smacked 174 off 116 deliveries while Rishav scored 114 off 118 deliveries. However, when it comes to squad depth, Assam can suffer in the future.
Coming back to Maharashtra, the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently leading by example. With an eye on making a comeback in the Indian team, the Pune-born batter hit a majestic double century in the last match which includes seven sixes in an over. Their bowlers too are in brilliant form as U19 World Cup-winning bowler, Rajvardhan Hangrekar picked up five wickets, giving 53 runs in his ten overs against UP. The other bowlers looked decent as Maharashtra currently looks dangerous going to the semi-final.
The two teams will square off on November 30 at the Narendra Modi Stadium B ground. The winner of the contest will then take on the winner of Karnataka versus Saurashtra on December 2 at the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.
