After a humiliating defeat at the hands of league leaders Mumbai Indians in their last match, Delhi Capitals (DC-W) are now set to face Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W) on March 11 at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. However, they have replaced the star Australia batter with another rock-solid opener in the form of Laura Wolvaardt. It is not yet confirmed whether the opener will play in the upcoming match but nonetheless, it’s a great addition to the team. On the other hand, 24-year-old Sophia Dunkley showed her class in the last match, scoring 65 off just 28 deliveries. If she once again manages to get a this kind of start, it will be very tough to stop the England international and that is something that the Delhi side should keep in mind.

Along with her, Harleen Deol too played some brilliant cricket, scoring 67 off 45 deliveries. However, the problem lies with the bowling unit at the moment. Four of their bowlers have conceded more than eight runs per over in the last match and that’s a massive reason to worry about. Meanwhile, Sneh Rana has been promoted as the new leader of the side but she doesn’t have enough experience leading a side in a big tournament. That too is problematic for Gujarat at the moment.

Now when it comes to Delhi, the think tank should think about their batting unit. Unless Meg Lanning is scoring runs, the team is not being able to capitalize. Jemimah Rodriguez and Shafali Verma have played well in patches but they need to take more responsibility with the bat. When it comes to bowling, Jess Jonassen picked up three wickets in the previous match while all the other bowlers looked average. 

Overall, even if they are second on the points table, there’s a lot of room for improvement for the Capitals. However, with an experienced skipper like Meg Lanning in charge, the team management will feel relaxed at the moment.
