The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has seen spin-bowling legend Ravichandran Ashwin announce his retirement from international formats after the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. This marked the end of an incredible career where the 38-year-old made life difficult for the batters with his incredible variations and wicket-taking abilities throughout his 14-year career.

After calling it a day, the Chennai-born opened up on getting scolded from the then coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri, from whom he was on the receiving end of scolding. The incident from the past took place when the India toured England in 2018 and the offie had an infamous incident with Ian Ward, revealing his bowling tricks. Now, the cricketer revealed how he did not feel insecure of Shastri's scolding.

“I got a real pasting from Ravi Shastri for doing that masterclass. I’m sure you’ve heard about that from him. I think he had his point, but somehow, inside me, I never felt insecure about it. " Ashwin told during a conversation on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast.

“I think there are two things in the game, right? One is to be able to deliver what you have, and the other is to be able to respond to what you throw down the other end, and I always believed, and I had the courage to say, here’s what I have to dish out,” he added.

Ashwin might have been more threatening at home, but his overseas Test record is equally incredible. In the 41 matches, he played away from home, he has taken 154 wickets at an average of 30.05 with eight five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket hauls to his name. Apart from that he has scored some runs with the bat with 1485 runs with two centuries to his name.

The ouster of Ashwin called for off-spin all-rounder Tanush Kotian, who has replaced the veteran to fill the huge void. The Mumbai cricketer was called to take the place of the departing legend for the remaining two Tests of the series, to be played in Melbourne (Boxing Day Test) and Sydney (New Year's & Pink Test).
