The auction for the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 is looming on the horizon, and with the event rapidly approaching, one of the biggest prospects for the auction has been veteran India batter Rohit Sharma. The 37-year-old was removed from the captaincy of Mumbai Indians after Hardik Pandya was handed the reins in 2024.
This has caused many rumours to spark up that Rohit could be available for franchises to buy at the IPL 2025 auction, and veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin recently came forward and discussed the potential price that Rohit could attract.
Ashwin opined that a franchise will need to keep the INR 20 crore aside for the Indian skipper if they want to secure his services in the tournament. It is worth noting that Rohit has led MI to five IPL titles, making them the joint most successful side in the tournament.
“You need to keep 20 crore with yourself if you want to sign up Rohit Sharma. 20 crore has disappeared there,” Ashwin said in a video on his YouTube channel.
That will be quite a story if Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians: AB de Villiers
Recently, there have been stories of Royal Challengers Bengaluru being interested in securing the services of Rohit Sharma. Reacting to the rumour, former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers came forward and talked about how absurd the rumours are.
“I almost laughed at the Rohit comment. That will be quite a story if Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians to RCB. Wow! Imagine the headlines. It will be bigger than Hardik Pandya’s move,” De Villiers said in a video on his YouTube channel.
“I don’t think there is an option there. I don’t see a possibility of MI leaving Rohit. I will give that zero or 0.1 percent chance," he added.
Interestingly, playing as a batter in the IPL 2024, Rohit scored 417 runs in 14 innings with an average of 32.08 where he hit one century and a half-century as well.
