61-year-old Kevin Watson set to play in England Seniors squad

Kevin Watson, a dedicated cricket enthusiast from North Yorkshire, is trading in his regular local team for a spot in the England Seniors squad. At the age of 61, Watson is all set to showcase his skills as part of the 14-strong England Seniors team participating in the Canada Masters tournament. 

The tournament kicks off with a warm-up match at the iconic Niagara Falls, and England is gearing up to compete against strong contenders such as Australia, United States, and the host nation, Canada. For Watson, donning the prestigious England blazer is akin to realizing a lifelong dream, particularly at this stage of life.

"Wearing the England blazer was what dreams were made of, especially at this age," he expressed with enthusiasm as quoted by bbc.com.

Hailing from Lofthouse in West Yorkshire, Watson's cricket journey began when he joined East Ardsley Juniors at the tender age of 15. As a seasoned cricketer, Watson holds the esteemed position of captain within his county side, Yorkshire Seniors.

Notably, his most recent career highlight was leading the England A team in a match against Australia in The Grey Ashes. Reflecting on the experience, he enthused, "That is right up there with everything I've done in cricket."

Anticipation is running high as Watson, hailing from Lofthouse in West Yorkshire, prepares to journey across the Atlantic to compete.

"I absolutely can't wait to get there. We have a warm-up game on Saturday, and the tournament begins on Tuesday," he shared. 

While the prospect of playing four games in five days, especially in temperatures of around 27°C (81°F), may seem daunting, Watson remains undeterred.

"At 61, to be in a position where you get the opportunity to represent your country abroad, I'm absolutely over the moon," he exclaimed.
