Team India won the coveted T20 World Cup 2024 by clinching a thriller against South Africa in the final at the Kensington Oval, in Barbados, on June 29. After posting 176 runs on board, India failed to contain the onslaught of Heinrich Klaasen as at one point the Proteas required just 30 runs in as many balls. The last five overs by the Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya were the best they could ever manufacture.
Particularly Bumrah bowled two over at death and conceded just five runs. Bowling the 16th over, he gave away just four against David Miller and Klaasen on strike. In the subsequent over, Pandya conceded just four runs and picked Klaasen’s wicket. Delivering the 18th over, the India pacer leaked just one run and cleaned up Marco Jansen. During India’s victory parade in Mumbai, Kohli lauded the 30-year-old’s ability to steal extra lives for the team repeatedly in the tournament.
"Like everyone in the stadium [here], we also felt at one point if it is going to slip away again, but what happened in those [last] five overs was truly, truly special. You know what I'd like everyone to do is applaud a guy who brought us back into games again and again and again in this tournament. What he did in those last five overs, bowling two out of the last five overs, it was phenomenal. A huge round of applause for Jasprit Bumrah, please,” said Kohli as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
A big thank you to all the people who turned up in the stadium: Kohli
After winning the coveted trophy, the Indian team had to wait for two more days as a hurricane in Barbados halted their travel back home. They eventually landed in Delhi on July 4 and straightaway met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They touched down in Mumbai late in the evening and participated in the victory parade. Virat Kohli highlighted the uncontrollable which led to an arduous return and also thanked fans for the warm welcome.

"A big thank you to all the people who turned up in the stadium. What we saw on the streets tonight is something I'm never going to forget in my life. The last four days have been a roller-coaster of a ride. As soon as we won the World Cup, we wanted to get out of Barbados, get back to India and celebrate with everyone. We got stuck in the hurricane, so it was an anti-climactic feeling. But since we've been back, it's been phenomenal,” he added.
