'A son couldn’t have asked for anything more' - Nitish Reddy sheds light on father's contentment after IPL 2024 heroics
"People said if he goes to Rajasthan, how will he manage everything here?,” said Reddy.
Nitish Reddy has been a revelation for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the all-rounder played a significant role in batting down the order and performing in crucial phases of the game with the ball. Nitish amassed 303 runs at an average of 33.67 and a strike rate of 142.92, while bowling he took two wickets in limited bowling time. He was named the Emerging Player of the Season in IPL 2024, and the 21-year-old has shed light on his father’s struggles and his satisfaction post-IPL 2024.
Nitish’s father quit his government job in Rajasthan when the former was just eight years old and dedicated his time to see his son play cricket. Moreover, the family shifted to Andhra Pradesh as Nitish forged his life in cricket while representing the state team and eventually making it to the SRH camp. The right-handed batter also revealed that his father was criticized and things took a U-turn after IPL 2024.
“If I have to tell that whole story, it will take 2–3 hours to tell. But cutting it short, he resigned from his job for me. I was just starting my career and was about to go to the academy in a few weeks. That’s when he took that call to stay. He was transferred to Rajasthan and had to stay there. People said if he goes to Rajasthan, how will he manage everything here?,” said Nitish as quoted by News18.
“So my father took this decision to stay back and keep working with me. Since that day, his job has been to take care of me. In fact, he does that even today. I’m so happy that I’m seeing some progress in my game, and I’m making him proud. A son couldn’t have asked for anything more than this to his father,” he added.

SRH showed faith in inexperience Nitish Reddy
Nitish had a forgetful 2023 season of IPL as his team, SRH, were ousted from the tournament in the league stage and his retention became a point of concern after playing only two games that year. He subsequently missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy due to an injury, and things were not in his control anymore. But SRH showed faith in him by retaining, and the rest is history.
