Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are struggling hard to find the right combination in the ongoing IPL 2025. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed out Rohit Sharma's poor performance as one of the main reasons behind MI's loss in the tournament. The player hasn't scored a lot of runs this season, disturbing the balance of the team.

MI's middle order consists of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, who have been doing the bulk of the scoring in the tournament. Captain Hardik Pandya has contributed with the ball more often than the bat. However, they haven't found the right combination yet.

Chopra mentioned that Rohit needs to convert his starts into bigger knocks, which will help MI score initially into the innings, and will ultimately be beneficial for the team. The former MI captain is considered to be one of the fiercest openers, especially in T20s, but the season hasn't been going to his liking so far, which is very concerning for the Mumbai-based franchise.

"Mumbai's big problem is that the batting order is not getting set properly, and it is because Rohit Sharma is not scoring runs. If Rohit Sharma doesn't score runs, the batting order starts creaking. You don't understand whom to send when. Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma are batting decently," said the former cricketer on his YouTube channel.

"Naman Dhir is batting very well, and Hardik Pandya is also in form. Will Jacks hasn't scored any runs thus far. You pushed him down the order in the last match, but since Rohit Sharma is opening and he is not in form, Naman Dhir goes too low. Rohit Sharma needs to score runs because if he doesn't, I don't know how Mumbai will manage him for the entire season," the Agra-born added.

Speaking of Mumbai Indians' campaign so far, the franchise currently finds itself seventh on the Points Table as of Match 32 of the cash-rich league. In order to solidify a place into the playoffs, they will need to at least five of their remaining matches, and with a better margin, which can help them boost chances of qualification. Their bowling department looks strong, and despite a star-studded batting line-up, runs need to come from the top, in order to mark a good start to the innings, whether while setting a target or even chasing.
