"Then you will need power hitters in the end because the pitches will be like that. If you see from that perspective, you need to capitalise on the first six overs," Aakash Chopra said.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is looming on the horizon, and various participating sides are hard at work in preparation for the marquee tournament. Ahead of the competition, all eyes have been set on the Indian team. Coming into the tournament after losing the summit clash of the ODI World Cup 2023, team India will be keen on doing better and going all the way in the T20 World Cup.

The upcoming edition of the World Cup will be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, and India will face Ireland, Pakistan, and the United States in their first three group games in New York before they face Canada in Lauderhill in the first phase of the tournament.

Ahead of the competition, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra came forward to reflect on what role skipper Rohit Sharma will play for the Men in Blue in the tournament. Chopra opined that both he and Yashasvi Jaiswal will look to make the most of the powerplay.

"It will be extremely necessary to maximise the first six overs in the West Indies and New York. As soon as the ball becomes slightly old and the field opens up, the ball will not come nicely onto the bat, and run-scoring will become slightly difficult,” Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"Then you will need power hitters in the end because the pitches will be like that. If you see from that perspective, you need to capitalise on the first six overs, and that's where Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will try their best to do that,” he added.

It seemed like he was adopting an ultra-aggressive mode: Chopra

Furthermore, Aakash Chopra also talked of Rohit’s performances in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. In the two matches that India have played against Afghanistan so far, Rohit Sharma has managed to amass any runs, as he was sent packing for a duck in both matches.

"The way Rohit batted in the first two matches, it seemed like he was adopting an ultra-aggressive mode, that he would try to hit every ball and do that without getting set,” Chopra said.
