Talismanic batters Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers formed some memorable partnerships during their time together at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). They share a great relationship off the field as well. The South African legend recently hinted that fans could see Kohli bid adieu to the game in the Rainbow Nation.
India's upcoming assignment is a multi-format series in South Africa. Kohli informed the selectors that he would not be a part of the white-ball leg but will join the team ahead of the Test matches. De Villiers, who was recently made the brand ambassador of SA20, the premier T20 competition in South Africa, spoke about the possibility of Kohli playing one season in the cash-rich league before bringing curtains down on his illustrious playing career.
"I think it would be very possible to get Virat over here. Maybe for his final season, we'll give him a wonderful farewell for the end of his career," de Villiers was quoted as saying by One Cricket.
The former South African captain said that he did nOt have a chat regarding this with Kohli. However, he has spoken with former India players like Robin Uthappa and RP Singh about a possible reunion in the T20 format in South Africa
"I haven't discussed it with any players except for Robin Uthappa and RP Singh. Not so long ago, we did some work together and I told them it would be great to see them over there," the 39-year-old said.
I would absolutely love to see myself in the RCB colours again: AB de Villiers
Several reports have emerged in recent years about de Villiers returning to RCB in a coaching role, but the dream comeback is still pending. De Villiers, however did nOt rule out the possibility of that and expressed his gratitude for the RCB faithful.
"I hope so. I mean, my heart is with the RCB. I've played there for many, many years. I've got a very good connection with the fans of Bangalore, and I'll always be appreciative for all the support and love over the years. I can't guarantee anything, but I would absolutely love to see myself in the RCB colours again in the future," said de Villiers in a recent interview with India Today.
