Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers reviewed India’s performance in the second Test between India and England in Visakhapatnam and lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant six-wicket haul. The track was expected to help the spinners as the subcontinent often offers rank-turners, however, a reverse-swinging masterclass from Bumrah came out of nowhere to dismantle England in the first innings.
Bumrah’s spell was crucial for the Indian team in bundling out England for 253. One of the biggest highlights was his exceptional yorker to in-form batter Ollie Pope. Coming off his match-winning knock of 196 in Hyderabad, Pope was completely bamboozled by Bumrah to be dismissed for 23 off 55.
"The man of the moment stepped up. What a bowler. It's Boom Boom Bumrah. I can't give this guy enough credit. He completely ran through the England lineup. The deliveries he bowled, especially to Stokes. All-in-all, a fantasic bowler, he asked all the right questions," De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
"That bowled to Ollie Pope, the guy who almost got a double hundred in the 1st Test match. He won England that Test match. Bumrah just decided, you know what, give me the ball to the best batter, I want to get him out. In my humble opinion, the ball started reverse-swinging at that very moment and that is where the reverse-swing is at its most dangerous moment. Ollie Pope did not pick up that the ball was reverse-swinging at that time. All credit to Bumrah," he added.
