After winning the first two matches of the ongoing Ashes 2023, Australia’s form massively dipped and are in a pretty tight spot at the moment. In the ongoing fourth Test in Machester, the team is on the cusp of another defeat, and that will jeopardize their situation at the moment. Be it their batting or bowling, the visiting team have played some very poor cricket in the ongoing Test and speaking about the former cricketers Glenn McGrath and Darren Barry criticised skipper Pat Cummins, who looked clueless for the match.

Notably, batting first, the Kangaroos posted 317 runs on a surface that was tailor-made for the batters to succeed. With the ball, they looked pretty average as England took a comfortable lead of 275 runs in return, the Pat Cummins-led side already lost four wickets and is trailing by 162 runs at the end of Day 2.

Thus, the former cricketers are absolutely disappointed. McGrath mentioned that Cummins looked tired to him and added saying that there was always a risk of having a pacer as a leader. He also stated that Australia didn’t look like to have a clear idea of how to execute their plan and thus, they are on the backseat in the ongoing fourth Ashes Test.

Australia tried a few things. I don’t think they really knew what to do. They were sort of chasing their tail a bit, and I’m not sure they executed their plans that well. Pat Cummins just looks a little bit tired and jaded to me, and that was always a risk of having a fast bowler as captain.

“It’s one of those things; it’s about momentum, it’s about energy. England’s got the momentum now, and it’s always hard to steal it back off the team that has it, especially when they’re playing well,” McGrath told BBC.

Former Victoria cricket skipper Berry believes Cummins will give up captaincy

Meanwhile, Darren Berry, the former Victoria cricket captain, on the other hand, called it to be unwatchable. Furthermore, he tagged the former Australian legend, Merv Hughes, to give his take on Pat Cummins' tenure as the Australia Test captain. He believes that Cummins will soon relinquish his captaincy after 'The Ashes' gets concluded.

“This is unwatchable. Goodnight to all lovers of the game of our great game of cricket. This is absolutely insane to anyone watching this s**t with half a clue about the game. Pat Cummins is a magnificent cricketer no doubt but remember this msg. He will resign from the captaincy after the Ashes series,” Berry wrote on his social media.
