ACC to release Asia Cup media rights tender in May 2024

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is planning to come up with a tender for the media rights of the Asia Cup in the next one month and is expecting to complete the process by July. The ACC has been in contact with the Indian Broadcasters for their views on the issue over the last few months.

According to reports, the council will be offering both four-year and eight-year deals, however, the broadcasters are more interested in the long-term options. Notably, there will be four Asia Cup tournaments in tender with two 50-over championships and two Twenty20 competitions.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the ACC will tell broadcasters that Asia Cups will not be held either in India or Pakistan to avoid the controversy of the previous edition which was jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan, the official hosts of the tournament.

The council wants to get rid of the situation of India and Pakistan refusing to travel to each other’s countries due to bitter political relations between them. As a result, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE and even Oman could be the potential hosts of the hosts of the upcoming Asia Cup tournaments.

Notably, Star Sports won the previous broadcasting rights of the Asia Cup splurging around $80 million for the four editions of the tournament. In the upcoming tender, ACC is hoping for an increase in the value considering the fact that each edition will have between two to three India-Pakistan fixtures, the highly anticipated matches in world cricket.

Meanwhile, the Cricbuzz report further states that FanCode has bagged the rights for the live stream of the upcoming Pakistan vs New Zealand five-match T20I series in India. The series will begin on Thursday, April 18 in Rawalpindi. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sold the international rights to a consortium of ARY Communications and TransGroup who further sold the India rights to FanCode.
