The ace New Zealand batter, Kane Williamson, has landed back in his home country, post the knee injury he sustained during an Indian Premier League match. As a result of the severity of his injury, his participation in the ongoing mega cricket carnival got curtailed. Notably, Williamson injured his knee while going for a spectacular take on the boundary in what was his debut match and season for his new IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans.
Post the huge injury setback, Titans officially confirmed that the Kiwi legend will not be able to play in the IPL 2023 ahead. But what is more worrying is that the upcoming ODI world cup is just six months and his injury can make a big impact on the New Zealand side. Therefore, his availability for the national side remains on a cliffhanger considering the treatment and rehabilitation process.
Meanwhile, Kane Williamson will be consulting specialists in New Zealand to assess the severity and a tentative recovery time which further complicates things for him and the team management. Recently, Williamson touched down in Auckland, wherein he will undergo recovery post an unfortunate injury.
Kane Williamson is in good spirits after his curtailed IPL 2023 campaign
Even though the 32-year-old Kiwi batting master seemed in good spirits, Williamson was spotted on crutches along with a heavy knee brace. Moreover, the Tauranga-born spoke about his current condition of the knee.
"It's not too painful at the moment," Kane Williamson was quoted as saying by the Newshub.
The BlackCaps skipper is the mainstay of the ODI side along with being a vital cog in their world cup hopes. Furthermore, the NZ coach Gary Stead and team management will be worried until Williamson's detail testing is completed. The New Zealand Cricket is expected to receive the pending details of test results on Tuesday, April 4.
However, the way Williamson was seen limping in some pain on the crutches indicates that there is a long road to recovery and rehabilitation for the ace batter. Not to forget that the upcoming ODI world cup will commence on October 5, in India.
