Adam Zampa takes cheeky dig at Michael Clarke after Australia’s World Cup triumph
Zampa's statement came after former Test captain Michael Clarke expressed concerns about the squad's performance, particularly on subcontinent pitches.
Adam Zampa has taken a cheeky dig at former Australia skipper Michael Clarke following his team's triumph in the 2023 World Cup. Notably, Clarke had expressed some concerns about Australia's performance on subcontinent pitches following the two losses against India and South Africa at the start of the World Cup.
Clarke had cautioned that if the team did not improve, they would be facing the same criticisms as the Wallabies rugby team. "If we are not careful, the conversation we have been having about the Wallabies the last three weeks we will be having about the Australian cricket team in two weeks' time," Clarke had said.
However, Australia rallied on and secured their sixth World Cup title, showcasing their resilience and ability to bounce back as they won nine games on the trot, including the two knockouts. Meanwhile, Zampa, known for his funny personality, took to social media to cheekily taunt Clarke after the victory.
“If we are getting shown up like that against South Africa, the spin in the subcontinent teams, we will be laughable. If we are not careful, the conversation we have been having about the Wallabies the last 3 weeks, we will be having about the Australian cricket team in two weeks' time. We should have turned up to India in our prime,” Zampa wrote.
Zampa's humorous post highlighted the team's ability to overcome expectations and silence critics. His own stellar performance throughout the tournament, particularly after a challenging start against India and South Africa, was instrumental in Australia's success.
The leg-spin maestro emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in the World Cup. Zampa had an impressive tally of 23 wickets at an economy rate of 5.36 and an average of 22.39 in 11 matches and he played a pivotal part in Australia's triumph.
