Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) crashed to their fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, April 6. The Pat Cummins-led side lost to Gujarat Titans (GT) in front of their home fans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Sunrisers adopted an ultra-aggressive approach at the start of last season, which turned out to be fruitful as they reached the finals. They continued with the same approach in IPL 2025, but that has only yielded them one win in five matches. The Hyderabad-based franchise is languishing at the bottom of the points table with a worrisome net run-rate (NRR) of -1.629.
SRH head coach Daniel Vettori said that the team believes the aggressive style will work wonders this season as well. However, he admitted that the players will have to respect the conditions and how the opposition bowlers are bowling.

"I think we know the style is going to work, but we have to respect conditions, and we have to assess really well, and that's probably something we haven't done. Also, [we] have to respect how well other teams are bowling, putting a lot of planning into our top three and they haven't been able to execute it at times," said Vettori in the post-match press conference.
The former New Zealand spinner also asserted that he and captain Cummins are not the ones who panic. However, he acknowledged that losing four games in a row makes their journey in IPL 2025 tougher.
"I don't think Pat [Cummins] has ever panicked in his life, and I think I'm pretty similar. But we understand the ramifications of losing four in a row and how difficult it makes the season. It's tough because obviously you come into the season with high expectations after [finishing as runners-up] last year and then a very good start," he added.
Coming to the match, Sunrisers were restricted to 152/8 by Gujarat after Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a four-for. In reply, the 2022 champions reached home in 16.4 overs with seven wickets to spare. Shubman remained unbeaten on 61 off 43 balls, while Washington Sundar (49) and Sherfane Rutherford (35*) made handy contributions.
