The Border Gavaskar Trophy has finally begun, and Team India dominated the Australians on the first day of the Nagpur Test. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav and KS Bharat made their much-awaited Test debuts. Yadav has been in fabulous form in the shorter formats of the game, and now he gets to prove his talent in Test cricket as well.
There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the starting XI ahead of the first test. The inclusion of the in-form Shubman Gill was heavily debated, but the selectors of Team India chose KL Rahul as the opener and Suryakumar Yadav to bat in the middle order. Speaking about the same, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja opined on Surya’s inclusion.
It is a tough one. Suryakumar Yadav is more fun to watch. But from the point of view of Indian cricket, both of them were picked in the squad based on form. It is a very difficult call. But it seems like the Indian team has given the chance to players who have toiled a lot in domestic cricket, be it for KS Bharat or for Suryakumar Yadav. Indian team has given players their due," Jadeja said in a chat with Cricbuzz.

As the Australian team opted to bat first, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj struck early, taking out David Warner and Usman Khawaja, respectively. The partnership between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne was integral to the Aussies' ability to put some much-needed runs on the board. Alex Carey and Peter Handscomb also played important knocks for Australia.
The Aussies managed to score 177 after a dominant display by the Indian bowling attack. Team India got off to a good start after skipper, Rohit Sharma, attacked the Australian bowlers right from the start. After the end of day 1, team India have just lost a wicket in KL Rahul and have put themselves in a commanding position.
