Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein took a hat-trick in Pakistan Super League 2024 during Match 25 between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi on Friday, March 08 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. The West Indies cricketer achieved the feat in the 16th over of the game as he came on to bowl the last over of his spell.
Hosein got a wicket on the second ball of the over as he made Aamer Jamal (5 off 4) edge one to wicketkeeper Laurie Evans. He further dismissed Mehran Mumtaz on the third ball of the over making him chop one back onto his stumps. On a hat-trick, the southpaw bowled a brilliant delivery shaping away from the left-handed Luke Wood, who edged it to Rilee Rossouw at slips.

As a result, Hosein completed his hat-trick was seen jubilantly running towards the boundary and celebrating in a unique fashion. He was chased by his teammates who ran behind him to congratulate on his feat.

Earlier, Hosein also got the prized scalp of the Peshawar captain Babar Azam (53 off 30) getting him out lbw in his third over. He finished with figures of 4/23 in four overs after his hat-trick bringing Peshawar from 157/5 to 157/8 in a space of three balls.
Akeal Hosein climbs to third spot in most wickets list
Courtesy of his magnificent spell, Hosein also climbed to the third spot in the list of the leading wicket-takers of PSL 2024. In the seven matches played so far, the 30-year-old has scalped 13 wickets at an average of 15.23 and an economy of 7.07 with best figures of 4/23.

Meanwhile, after Hosein’s hat-trick, Rovman Powell and Naveen ul Haq got involved in a crucial stand of 39* off 26 balls guiding their team to 196/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Powell remained unbeaten on 28* (25) and Naveen scored 10* (9).
