Alex Hales is very talented player, he’s used to T20 cricket: Farokh Engineer
Alex Hales's strike rate has been under the scanner in his last few games.
Former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer backed Alex Hales to come good soon after a string of low scores in the last few games. The England opener hasn’t looked in his best touch yet in the tournament despite his team doing really well. He was dismissed for 19 off 20 balls in the previous game against Afghanistan and his strike rate has been a question mark too in the T20 World Cup 2022.
However, Hales has the ability to win games when he is on song and the ongoing game against Ireland will be a good opportunity for him to get back to his best. Ahead of the fixture against Ireland, Farokh Engineer opined on the style England have adopted in every format and explained the role that Hales plays in it.
He has been out to good catches and I’m not worried about his form: Farokh Engineer
Farokh felt that Hales has got the experience of playing for various franchises in the T20 format globally and noted that he has been dismissed to good catches. The 84-year-old further mentioned that Hales’ role is to play his shots upfront with the long batting line-up and felt that the right-hander has been given the freedom to go after the bowling. e
“Alex Hales is a very experienced batsman. He’s playing in all the franchisees (around the globe) and he’s used to T20 cricket. He has been out to good catches and I’m not worried about his form. England aren’t worried about his form neither because he’s there to play shots and there’s a long line of batters to follow him. They must have given him the green light that go ahead and play your game, play your shots,” Farokh Engineer told on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.
Farokh also felt the likes of Stokes and McCullum have played a big part in the England team’s approach and added that it should work in the T20 format more than Tests.
“That’s the attitude that Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum have instilled in the England team. They don’t worry if you lose your wicket even in Test cricket. I don’t know how long that will last in Test Cricket but certainly it will work in the T20s. So, Alex Hales has a green signal, go out there and give your best shot, and that’s what he will do. He is a very talented player, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he comes off here,” he added.
