'Alice Capsey is amazing' - Charlotte Edwards eulogizes England's batting prodigy after latter's match-winning knock in 3rd T20I

Former England skipper Charlotte Edwards was full of praise for all-rounder Alice Capsey for her impressive performance against Australia women in the third T20I at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Saturday, July 8. Notably, England won the game by five wickets and clinched the three-game series by 2-1.

Edwards lauded Capsey, stating she represents a fearless generation of young players in the England team. The 43-year-old stated that she was brilliant during the match, citing the all-rounder's previous performances in The Hundred.

"Alice Capsey is amazing. This is what she does. The younger talent in this England side, they've got no fear, they aren't fazed. We've got to remember Alice Capsey has played in two Lord's finals (in The Hundred), so tonight was just another day for her. It prepares her to play at these venues and to perform at this level," Edwards told Sky Sports.

Edwards went on to say that Capsey's run of form is remarkable, especially for an 18-year-old. There are so many girls might be thinking, 'I want to be the next Alice Capsey,' after seeing the teenager’s performance, according to the 43-year-old. Notably, she performed admirably with the bat in the 3rd T20I, scoring 46 off 23 balls, including four boundaries and two maximums.

"But to come out on the biggest of stages, after the run of form she's had, it's unbelievable from an 18-year-old. Everyone was saying, 'she's only scored 17 runs in her last five innings', but then provides that kind of innings. There's so many girls now wanting to play cricket and watching tonight thinking, 'I want to be the next Alice Capsey'," the former cricketer added.

It's just about getting better and trying to become more consistent in T20 cricket: Capsey

Meanwhile, reflecting on her knock in the 3rd T20I of the ongoing Women's Ashes 2023, Capsey stated that she is still looking for consistency in the limited-overs format. The 18-year-old, who won the Player of the Match, further said that she trains hard in the nets and has had a lot of support from the coaching staff.

"T20 cricket, especially the way I play, sometimes I'm going to come off and sometimes I won't. It's just about getting better and trying to become more consistent at it. I've been working hard in the nets, and have been given a lot of backing by the coaching staff," Capsey said.
