All-rounder Cameron Green gets ruled out of ongoing England ODI series; returns to Perth

All-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the remainder of Australia’s ongoing ODI series against England and has returned back to Perth after complaining of soreness. In the meantime, Mitchell Marsh has replaced the cricketer in Australia's playing XI for the second ODI against the Three Lions in Sydney while wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis, who suffered a freak injury while playing golf, just before the T20 World Cup, has been asked to replace Green in the squad.

The all-rounder’s injury isn’t considered to be major and Cricket Australia is taking a precautionary measure to keep him ready for the upcoming games. As per reports, Green is likely to feature in Australia’s first Test of the ongoing summer against the West Indies at the Perth Stadium starting November 30.

In the first ODI against England, Green bowled a total of seven overs and scored unbeaten 20 runs to help Australia win the game. In the recently culminated T20 World Cup, the youngster played just one match and that was against Afghanistan.

Pat Cummins, Jos Buttler rested as Josh Hazlewood and Moeen Ali lead their respective sides in second ODI

Both Pat Cummins and Jos Buttler decided to take a break ahead of the second ODI to manage their workload. In Cummins' absence, speedster Josh Hazlewood has taken up the responsibility to lead Australia while Moeen Ali, is doing the same for England.

Hazlewood’s appointment as Australia’s stand-in skipper for the 2nd ODI came as a surprise to many considering the presence of a senior player like Steve Smith in the squad. David Warner, who was one of the favourites to lead the ODI side after Aaron Finch announced his ODI retirement didn't get the nod ahead of Cummins while Smith, the vice-captain of the Test team, was not considered at all.

However, given the record in the past and with Cummins being a fast bowler, it is likely that he is not going to play every ODI for Australia going forward due to workload management. 

“Things change - there might be times where the captain might not necessarily play every game and someone else steps in. There’s a lot to think through, for whoever it is. I love being Test captain – hopefully I’m there at the ODI World Cup as a player, firstly. If it comes up and it works, it would obviously be a huge privilege, but if not, it’s totally fine,” Cummins told reporters in September.
