Alyssa Healy confirms she will be available for upcoming Women's T20 World Cup

The seasoned Australian wicketkeeper, Alyssa Healy, was forced to retire hurt during the fourth T20I vs India in December 2022. Furthermore, she went on to miss the recently concluded ODI and T20I series against Pakistan as well. In a recent development, Healy has confirmed that she is ready to play in the upcoming Women’s T20 World cup, which is scheduled to begin from February 10, in South Africa. Midge has been nursing her calf injury and has regained her fitness now.

Although, Beth Mooney has done quite well behind the stumps in Healy's absence, and also smashed a century against Pakistan in the third ODI as an opener. The 32-year-old is primed to return for the T20 World Cup opener against New Zealand on February 12, after getting sidelined for six weeks.

“I’m feeling really good, ticking all the boxes. I’ll be definitely right to go for that first game and hopefully get some games in before then,” said Healy on the blue carpet of Cricket Australia's Awards.

The 32-year-old also mentioned, how she hated to watch cricket on TV during the recovery period as she couldn’t be part of the game. “I’ve absolutely hated every minute. I hated watching the cricket on the TV; I couldn’t be a part of any of the cricket. It’s a lesson for me to make sure I’m looking after myself moving forward if I want to be a part of stuff,” she said.

“All the rehab’s gone really smoothly and I’ve worked really hard at that, so hopefully it all comes together and holds together,” the Aussie wicketkeeper added.

Healy’s husband, Mitchell Starc, revealed how frustrated she was watching her teammates play on TV. “It's been a little bit entertaining because I’ve had my fair share (of injuries). So to see her go through her first bigger injury and how frustrated she gets with having to go to rehab or having to be the golf cart for golf … she’s done the work,” said the Australian pacer.

The Australian women’s cricket team is the most successful in the T20 World Cup history with five titles being the defending champions of the upcoming tournament. The World No.1 T20 team will look to reclaim the title for the sixth time.
