'Amazing we could get the job done like that' - Beth Mooney thrilled after guiding Australia to victory in first Women's Ashes T20I
Australia chased down 153 in 19.5 overs courtesy of Mooney’s unbeaten 61 off 47.
Australia continued their dominance in the Women’s Ashes 2023 as they beat England in the first T20I at Edgbaston, Birmingham. After being put in to bat first, England posted 153/7 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of a splendid half-century by Sophia Dunkley (56 off 49). In reply, Australia chased down the target in 19.5 overs courtesy of Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 61 off 47.
Following her match-winning knock, Mooney said that it was exciting to play in front of 20,000 people at Edgbaston supporting England. However, she managed to spot a few fans wearing jerseys with her name on it. Talking about their lead, Mooney said that it was nice to get over the line in the game which could have gone either way.
“It was a lot of fun, the crowd was awesome. Not many people there on my side, apart from a couple in Mooney Shirts up there. Awesome atmosphere, amazing we could get the job done like that. Absolutely, I felt all 20 thousand (people present in the stadium), every person out there was supporting England,” Mooney said in a video shared by Australia women’s cricket.
“That’s what we live for, I never thought I’d play in front of crowds like these so it’s really nice to be over here in the UK and seeing the support England girls are getting. Yes, it feels pretty good (to have six points in Women’s Ashes 2023 so far), could’ve gone either way that game I think so it’s really nice to get over the line,” she added.
