Ambati Rayudu and Sheldon Jackson got engaged in an ugly on-field spat during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 Elite Group D game between Saurashtra and Baroda on Wednesday, October 12.

Umpires and the Baroda players had to intervene to calm the two players, who were involved in a verbal showdown. Baroda and Saurashtra locked horns in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where the latter got the better of former and bagged a four-wicket win.

The game was going smoothly before the altercation happened and both teams for pushing each other for a much-needed win.

Ambati Rayudu and Sheldon Jackson’s verbal spat

The incident took place in the ninth over of Saurashtra's innings when Jackson was at the crease and some of his mannerisms did not go down well with the veteran Baroda player. Rayudu was seemingly unhappy with the Saurashtra batter who took his own time to face the deliveries.

Baroda skipper immediately walked up to the batter and engaged in a verbal spat that resulted in an unfortunate incident and the teammates and umpires had to intervene. Earlier in the day, Saurashtra won the toss and opted to bowl against Baroda at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Mitesh Patel emerged as the top-scorer for Baroda, scoring a sublime 60 off just 35 deliveries. Adding to it, Vishnu Solanki’s 51 off 33 balls helped Baroda attain a grand total of 175/4 in 20 overs. Rayudu could not get a score on the sheet for his side as he was dismissed for a duck by Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat.

Unadkat-led Saurashtra emerged victorious in the final over of the match thanks to a sensational knock from Samarth Vyas. That batter registered 97 runs along with Jay Gohil’s 17* that took them past the finishing line.

Other Indian team players like Cheteshwar Pujara (Saurashtra), Krunal Pandya (Baroda), and Varun Aaron (Baroda) also featured in the match apart from the likes of Unadkat, Jackson, and Rayudu.
