Andre Russell's 15-hour cricket rollercoaster: From golden duck to BPL disappointment

Star West Indies all-rounder, Andre Russell played two different leagues within 24 hours. He represented Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) in the ongoing edition of the ILT20 on February 2 and registered a golden duck. Just 15 hours after the forgettable outing, he boarded a Mirpur flight to represent Rangpur Riders (RAN) in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2024-25).

Notably, it was an Eliminator match against Khulna Tigers and was dismissed for just four runs off nine balls. He batted at number eight and was cleaned up by Pakistan left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz. As a result, Rangpur were bundled up for just 85 runs as as Khulna chased down the target with nine wickets in hand. In essence, Russell was out of two tournaments in a span of almost 15 hours. 

Not only Russell, but his national teammate, Jason Holder was also treated the same way. He too featured in the Eliminator clash between Rangpur and Khulna and the result was the same. James Vince, Tim David and Shimron Hetmyer, all of whom played in ILT20 2025 and were also part of the Eliminator. 

But, Sri Lanka batter Dasun Shanaka had fruitful outings after going through the same grind as the Caribbeans. He played first-class cricket in Sri Lanka and joined Dubai Capitals with a few hours of gap in between. Playing for Sinhalese Sports Club, he smashed a century and showed the same fervour as he clobbered 34 off 12 balls for Capitals.

Russell had dismal ILT20 2025 outings

Meanwhile, speaking of Andre Russell’s performance, the all rounder was not up to the mark with his performances for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 2025. He batted in 10 innings and scored just 130 runs at an average of 18.57. With the ball, the right-arm pacer bowled in three innings and claimed just two wickets with a disastrous economy rate of 11.42.
