Lancashire teenager Rocky Flintoff, the son of former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff, managed to score 32 runs on his debut but fell prey to Jordan Clark's four-wicket haul. He was watched by his father on his first-class debut. Meanwhile, Clark’s brilliant performance with the ball put Surrey back on top of the game on day 1 at the Oval.
Flintoff becAme Lancashire’s youngest player ever in the County Championship. He earned his debut after impressive performances for the England Lions and Lancashire in the One Day cup. The youngster came out to bat at No. 4, as the score read 33/2 in the 11th over. He went on to play seven consecutive dots before he scored his first run. He managed to score 32 runs but was dismissed after a brilliant catch by Sai Sudharshan.

The youngster’s dismissal saw Lancashire stranded 98/4. Furthermore, Surrey’s bowling attack did a commendable job of limiting Lancashire to 205 runs in their innings. As theycame out to bat, Surrey’s Dom Sibley and Rory Burns propelled them to a score of 83 runs without any loss before the play was stopped due to bad light.
After a subpar showing in the first innings, where Flintoff showed glimpses of class, he will hope to do better in the second innings. In his last red-ball outing, he played against Sri Lanka’s youth team, representing England U-19 in July 2024. He managed to scored 106 off181 in Cheltenham. He failed to go big in the One-Day cup but he will hope that it will not hinder his performances going forward. Making his first-class debut at such a tender age, the sky's the limit for the youngster.
