Andrew McDonald sings Tim David praises
"It's powerful hitting, it's something different. We've seen some great death hitters over time and sometimes in opposition teams as well," Andrew McDonald said.
Star Australian batter Tim David played an exceptional innings for his side against New Zealand in the first T20I of the ongoing series. As the Men in Yellow looked to chase down a mammoth target of 216 runs in 20 overs, David played a marvellous knock scoring 31 runs off just 10 balls.
His performance helped Australia win the clash in resounding fashion after brilliant showings by skipper Mitchell Marsh. Seeing David’s brilliant knock certainly impressed Australia head coach Andrew McDonald.
McDonald opined that the hardships that David has gone through have helped him become the player he is today and revealed how it is scary for the opposition players when he walks out to bat.
"It's powerful hitting, it's something different. We've seen some great death hitters over time and sometimes in opposition teams as well. It's a scary proposition when he walks to the crease for any opposition bowlers. I think the journey and the failures along the way build the player you see out there today,” McDonald was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au
It takes a long journey: McDonald
Furthermore, the head coach talked about how the international team backed David and that the side understood how taking on the role of the finisher would have hardships on the way.
"It takes a long journey. I think any time you're in those finishing roles, it's littered with failure across that journey. To be able to come through and out the other side, and when you get that opportunity as well to be in those situations and then take the opportunity, there's a lot of mental strength to it,” McDonald said.
It is interesting to note that Tim David had a poor showing in the 2023/24 BBL season but has improved a lot since then and has performed when needed for Australia. Furthermore, if the 27-year-old manages to perform well in the upcoming IPL 2024, he could be a serious contender to make Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup.
