Ace Indian batter Virat Kohli has been in sensational form at the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Coming in clutch for the Indian team in several situations at the tournament so far, Kohli has showcased just why he is one of the best batters of the generation.
His performances have also left the Indian team in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. In India’s recent clash against Sri Lanka, Kohli scored 88 runs in 94 deliveries. However, many critics have come forward and opined that Kohli has been playing "selfishly" and has been looking to score centuries in every game, prioritising it over a win. The same question was asked by a fan on a Pakistan TV segment: ‘Haarna mana hai’.
However, seeing the comment, veteran Pakistan cricketer Imad Wasim came forward in Kohli’s defense and stated that the 34-year-old plays according to the situation and that it is wrong to talk of him in this manner.
“Everything is calculated when Virat Kohli plays; he knows who is around him. During run chases, he is 10/10; he knows when to attack; he knows when he has to hit it for a six; he is a special player; and in this era, there is no better player than him. It is wrong to talk of him in this way,” Imad Wasim said on the show.

Comparison with Virat Kohli is stupid: Mohammad Amir
Furthermore, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir, who was part of the same discussion, opined that comparing Virat Kohli with anyone is stupid, and it is the intent that matters.
“I don't know why people keep comparing Virat Kohli; any comparison is stupid. Secondly, you have to look at the player’s intent. He was playing ball-to-ball (against Sri Lanka), and he was trying,” Mohammad Amir said.
Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq was of a similar opinion as well. Stating that it is important to note how the partner alongside Kohli is playing. He is still maintaining an average of 6.5 without hitting boundaries.
“It is important to note how the non-striker is playing. It is not right to say, but if Imam-ul-Haq was playing alongside Virat Kohli, then it would have caused problems,” Abdul Razzaq said.
