Any team facing Pakistan in final will be worried: Wasim Jaffer
Pakistan head to the finals after the win against New Zealand.
A dramatic turn of events has now propelled Pakistan into the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 following their massive win against New Zealand. It was hard to visualise the same a few weeks ago and now they have booked their tickets for the finals.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer was left intrigued by the turn of events in Pakistan’s favour and how the side capitalised on it. Pakistan were clinical in their performance against the Kane Willaimson-led New Zealand side on Wednesday, November 9.
After losing the toss, Pakistan led by a spirited bowling display, restricted the Black Caps to 152 in their 20 overs. In reply, the Green Brigade rode on the century partnership between Babar and Mohammad Rizwan and won the game by seven wickets and five balls to spare.
Many players and members of the management may have even packed their bags: Jaffer
“Reaching the grand stage after 13 years would mean a lot to the side. Because, at one stage it felt like they were going home, we have never seen fortune change so much in such little time. On the day of the Bangladesh fixture, it did feel like they were heading back home.
Many players and members of the management may have even packed their bags. But who would have thought that the Netherlands would beat South Africa the way they did and hand a chance to Pakistan?” said Jaffer on BatBricks7 presents ‘Run Ki Runneeti show’ on CricTracker.
“So, on that day they would be thinking to themselves that a failed campaign, could not get ahead and things suddenly took a turn, the Netherlands win, Pakistan then beat Bangladesh and qualified, and then they play such good cricket against New Zealand. I have never seen fortune change like this ever, hats off to them that they peaked at the right time. So, any team that will be facing Pakistan in the final, will be worried!” concluded Jaffer.
Pakistan head to MCG for final
Just when everyone believed Pakistan are one step closer to exiting the tournament just weeks ago, the Babar Azam-led side came back strongly and will now feature in the summit clash at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The winner of the India-England semi-final fixture will join the Men in Green for an epic encounter in the finals of the showpiece event on November 13, Sunday.
