Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan’s son Archie continued to impress with his stint in the County Championship. The 18-year-old picked up his first five-wicket haul in division 1 of the Championship, and representing Somerset, he played a key role in limiting Surrey in the first innings.

It is worth noting that opening the innings for Somerset, Archie Vaughan scored 44 runs in 107 deliveries in the first innings as his side posted a total of 317 runs in the first innings of the game. Not only did he impress with the bat, he managed to wow with the ball in his hand as well.

Bowling 37 overs in the first innings, Archie conceded 102 runs but took six wickets in the process. His spell helped Somerset limit Surrey to a total of 321 runs in the first innings, limiting them to a slender lead.

Archie made his first-class debut against Durham in August 2024, with Michael Vaughan even failing to hold back his pride when commentating on the game. On his debut, Archie scored 30 and 16 runs across both innings and even picked up three wickets throughout the game.

He signed a two-and-a-half-year professional contract with Somerset in May 2024 and has continued to show promise whenever he is given a chance in the squad.

Somerset maintain lead as Surrey close in

Speaking of the game between Somerset and Surrey, after Vaughan’s heroics limited Surrey to a total of 321 runs in the first innings, Somerset followed it up by posting 194 runs on the board by the end of day 3. Archie Vaughan had a forgettable outing with the bat as he was sent packing for a score of three runs in 11 deliveries.

With a lead of 190 runs, Somerset have already lost nine wickets and will hope to accumulate some more runs before the final wicket falls, so they can post a fighting target for Surrey in the second innings.
