Sandeep Lamichhane, the captain of Nepal's national cricket team, is accused of rape, and the Kathmandu District Court has ordered an arrest warrant for him, according to the police. Lamichhane is presently playing in the Caribbean Premier League in Trinidad & Tobago. He competed for his country in the ODI and T20 series against Kenya.

Cricketer Lamichhane was the subject of a rape report that was made to the police on Tuesday. Following the filing of the rape case at the Gaushala Police Circle, the police requested a warrant of arrest from the district court for Lamichhane. A police officer who worked on the case confirmed that the district court had issued an arrest warrant for Lamichhane.

“The district court has issued an arrest warrant for Lamichhane who has been accused of raping a minor,” said the police officer on the condition of anonymity given the delicate nature of the matter.

On August 22, the captain of the national team left Nepal. The incidents allegedly occurred the night before and the morning of the day he traveled to Kenya. The 17-year-old girl has since filed the complaint and passed the necessary health examination, and she is currently under police protection.

According to the girl's accusation, Sandeep sexually assaulted her on August 21 at a Kathmandu hotel. She has also stated that on August 17 she traveled to Nagarkot with Lamichhane after learning about the Nepal skipper from a friend. The report was confirmed by AIG Rabindra Singh Dhanuk of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office.

"A rape complaint has been filed against Sandeep Lamichhane. It’s a minor’s complaint, I will give further details regarding this tomorrow. The victim’s health check-up has also been performed this evening," Dhanuk has earlier stated.

No measures taken by Nepal Cricket Association so far

Whether the Nepal Cricket Association takes any measures against their captain Sandeep Lamichhane is still unknown at the moment. It will be intriguing to see if the cricketer receives a summons to the police station while still playing in the CPL. Though he is in the Caribbean nation, he has not yet played a single game representing the Jamaica Tallawahs.
