India endured a difficult time at the recently concluded 2022 Asia Cup after being knocked out of the competition at the Super 4 stage. Arshdeep Singh was one of the few bright sparks for the seven-time winners in a bleak campaign. But the young pacer did not have it easy as he came under scrutiny after a costly drop against Pakistan. His coach Jaswant Rai has revealed that the youngster was disappointed with himself and wasn't able to sleep the night after his error.

India were in the ascendency in an epic battle against arch-rivals Pakistan in their first Super 4 match, and in the 18th over, a relatively trivial chance popped up towards Arshdeep, who grassed the sitter. Asif Ali, the batter who was handed the reprieve, played a decisive cameo to secure the win for the Men in Green. The young Indian pacer was subjected to abuse on various social media platforms for his hand in the loss against Pakistan.

Although the young pacer redeemed himself to some extent by bowling an exceptional 20th over, he was not able to sleep that night, according to his coach Jaswant Rai. Rai consoled the player after his mistake and advised the young pacer to keep putting in the hard yards for the team instead of thinking of the past.

“Like any player, Arshdeep was a bit tense but then we told him that he has done all the hard work and does not have to worry. After he dropped the catch against Pakistan and almost defended seven runs in the last over, I had a talk with him and he told me that he could not sleep that night," Rai told The Indian Express.

Arshdeep's attitude of rectifying his mistakes will only help him and India: Jaswant Rai

Arshdeep's coach also revealed that the pacer does not care about the trolls on social media and was disappointed about not nailing the yorkers in the final over. Rai stated that the Punjab-born pacer's positive attitude towards his game will benefit the Indian team greatly, heading into the T20 World Cup.

"He shared that he does not care about trolls but his thoughts were only about not his attempted yorker turning into a full toss. The T20 World Cup is the biggest stage for any cricketer and Arshdeep's attitude of rectifying his mistakes will only help him and India,” he added.
