Arshdeep Singh should be ahead of Mohammed Siraj in pecking order: Anil Kumble
Arshdeep has picked up seven wickets in three matches so far in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Legendary cricketer Anil Kumble is heavily impressed with Arshdeep Singh’s performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The left-arm pacer did well in the final over against Pakistan, against whom India secured a six-run victory. Then against USA, he picked up four wickets and was adjudged Player of the Match.
Kumble commented that Arshdeep should be ahead of Mohammed Siraj in the pecking order for the remainder of the tournament. With all the Super 8 matches slated to take place in West Indies, India may opt for an extra spinner. Keeping that in mind, Kumble kept Arshdeep ahead in the race and added that he gives extra variety.

“I think the way he (Arshdeep) bowled that last over against Pakistan, and also the way he can bowl in different areas in the T20 game, I think certainly puts him ahead of Mohammed Siraj. If at all India takes that option of going with just the two seamers and Hardik Pandya. So yes, in that sense, plus he also gives you an extra variety with his left arm pace,” Kumble said while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.
It's really important that Arshdeep takes a lot of confidence from this game: Varun Aaron
Varun Aaron analysed Arshdeep’s game after his match-winning spell against USA. The 34-year-old noted that the pacer can swing the ball very effortlessly and added that he should take the confidence to the Super 8.
“He (Arshdeep) is been getting the ball to shape back really effortlessly and at regular intervals, which we didn't see that much in the IPL. It's really important that he takes a lot of confidence from this game into the other games, especially the Super 8s. And especially these games are more about execution, and he executed really well today,” Aaron said.
India will play their final group stage game against Canada on June 15. After that, the Rohit Sharma-led side will move to West Indies for the Super 8.
