Recalling India’s past performances in the ICC trophies, skipper Rohit Sharma stated that it has been disappointing but he is fine with it and doesn't want to think much about it. He aims to stay in the present and told several times about his desire to win the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old also pointed out that other than Australia, no team has been consistent on the global stage and England have started winning trophies very recently. Hence, he is not going to take any extra pressure as it can jeopardize his thought process. He believes that India are one of the top teams in the world and hence, expects to get the job done in the coming two months.
“Yes, we have not won, it’s fine. I’m not a person who overthinks and puts myself in a tough place where I’m not able to make a decision. England started winning now; in 2019 they won the World Cup after so many years. It happens. Australia is the only consistent team who have won. After 2007, they won the ODI World Cup in 2015. They won the T20 World Cup in Dubai," Rohit said while speaking to Indian Express.
“Every year there is an ICC trophy now. If you don’t win it’s an unsuccessful year! People just forget what good work has happened in these 10 months. Rightly, as the Indian cricket team, we are expected to win major trophies. We are one of the top teams in the world. We have to be good at it. It has been disappointing for sure,” he added.
Notably, India will begin their campaign on October 8 against five-time champions Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of that, both of their practice matches got washed out due to rain and hence, the team lacks game time at the moment. Nevertheless, the current Asian champions recently defeated the Aussies 2-1 in the ODI series and hence, should be confident ahead of their opening match.
