Ashes 2023: England announce unchanged squad for fourth Test
Jonny Bairstow has continued while Ben Foakes' name is still a miss.
England have named their squad for the fourht Ashes Test against Australia. The winners of the Leeds Test have not made any changes to their squad, as the same set of players will be preparing for the Manchester Test.
After winning the third Test, England finally opened their account as the series currently stands at 2-1 in favour of the visitors. The previous game saw Jonny Bairstow making plenty of errors behind the stumps, but the wicketkeeper-batter has received a heads up for the upcoming game as he will continue to keep the gloves. Bairstow's start to the Ashes was decent, but poor outings in the past few innings led to a dip in his average.
With Ben Foakes, one of the finest wicketkeepers among active cricketers currently, still not getting a chance in England's squad, Bairstow's inclusion showcases Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum's backing. Given how crucial he has been in the past with the bat, there is optimism that he may have an influence in the fourth Test, which starts in eight days, and aid England in tying the series.
Another surprising name in the squad was of Ollie Robinson, who injured himself and is likely to miss out. Though he is still a part of the squad, James Anderson will find his way back into the playing combination if Robinson fails to recover before match day. Since the upcomign game is scheduled at Old Trafford, Anderson's home ground, it is likely for the veteran pacer to get a thumbs up.
England have stuck to their winning squad as the Ben Stokes-led side would be eager to win the forthcoming Test and level the series 2-2, so as to take the Ashes 2023 to the decider.
