The much-awaited India-Pakistan Super Four clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 got underway at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 10. Rain once again marred the high-voltage match, forcing the game to be called off. The action will resume on Monday, which is a reserve day, with both sides competing in a 50-over encounter.

Earlier in the game, after India was invited to bat first, Shubman Gill stormed to his second straight ODI half-century in the competition. He and Rohit Sharma (56) put on a 121-run opening stand before the latter was bowled out by all-rounder Shadab Khan. Meanwhile, before being bowled out by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Gill amassed 58 runs off 52 deliveries.

Later, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were brought in, with the wicketkeeper-batter replacing the injured Shreyas Iyer at No.4. Although a downpour arrived and pushed the players off the ground. The pair made a 24-run partnership off 38 balls for the third wicket while India were at 147/2 after 24.1 overs at that point.

For the uninitiated, the first encounter between the two sides in Pallekele had to be called off before the second half  as a result of rain. Rain has been a frequent visitor to the Asia Cup this year, especially during the matches played in Sri Lanka.
