After some pulsating encounters during the course of the 2023 Asia Cup, the final at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo turned out to be a one-sided affair between India and Sri Lanka.

On a fresh pitch, which looked quite dry, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bat first. Right before the start of the match, rain came in to cause a delayed start. After the match got underway, Jasprit Bumrah took only three balls to give India the initial breakthrough as he dismissed Kusal Perera for a duck. This was just the beginning of a nightmare for Sri Lanka and their fans as Mohammed Siraj started to breathe fire. The 29-year-old bowled with venom and swung the ball commendably in both directions as Sri Lankan batters were all at sea against him.

Siraj picked up four wickets in his second over as Sri Lanka were reeling at 12/5. The home side's highest run-getter in the tournament, Kusal Mendis, tried to fight it out alongside captain Shanaka but the latter was dismissed by Siraj, who picked up a fifer in just 16 balls.

The in-form pacer bowled seven overs in his first spell and finished with mind-boggling figures of 6/21. Hardik Pandya joined in on the fun and cleaned up the tail with a three-for. Sri Lanka were dismissed for just 50, which broke the record for the lowest total in an ODI final and also the lowest ODI score versus India.

In reply, India decided to send Ishan Kishan to open alongside Shubman Gill. The two youngsters played some flamboyant cricket, hitting boundaries at will to different parts of the ground. They helped India chase down the meagre score in just 6.1 overs as the 'Men in Blue' won a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title.
