AUS vs IND 2024-25: Jasprit Bumrah rues missing out bowling on 'spiciest wicket of the series'
It's a little disappointing in the end because I probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series, but that's the way it is. Sometimes, you have to accept it and move forward." Bumrah said.
India managed to provide a target of just 162 runs on Day 3 of the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. The hosts managed to chased the target with six wickets in hand to win the series 3-1 and book their World Test Championship 2025 final berth by knocking out India.
Jasprit Bumrah, who captained India, missed bowling in the second innings due to a back spasm and the remaining pacers could only muster four wickets in a bid to tackle the Aussies on Sunday.
On the other hand, India were trodden down throughout the series as their only win came in the first Test in Perth. Since then, it remained a sorry affair for the tourists, with Bumrah the only standout contributor. He picked a record-levelling 32 wickets across five Tests and was left frustrated after losing out to bowl on the “spiciest pitch of the series” due to his back issue. Despite being named Player of the Series, Bumrah lamented the team missing out on extra pacer in him in the second innings.
"It's a little frustrating, but sometimes you've got to respect your body, you can't fight your body. It's a little disappointing in the end because I probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series, but that's the way it is. Sometimes, you have to accept it and move forward." Bumrah said after the game.
“With a bowler short, the others had to take responsibility. The chat this morning was about the same thing, about having belief and showing character. Lots of ifs and buts, the whole series was fought hard, we were in the game today as well, not like we were out of it, this is how Test cricket goes. Being in the game for longer, creating pressure, absorbing pressure and playing to the situation are all important. You have to adapt to the situations and these learnings will help us in the future.

"They [youngsters] have gained a lot of experience; they will only go from strength to strength from here. Australia is not the easiest place to play cricket, but we've shown we have a lot of talent in our group, it's all about adapting and learning new things about your game. I'm sure lot of youngsters are keen, obviously they are disappointed we weren't able to win the series, but they want to take the learning forward," Bumrah added.
India will play their next Test series after a gap of almost five months, a five-match series against England away from home. The tour will commence from June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Before the red-ball fixtures, they have a bigger task at hand in the form of Champions Trophy 2025 commencing from February 19. India will play all their games in UAE after refusing to travel to Pakistan.
