AUS vs IND 2024-25: Rain to affect last two days of Sydney Test

Fans have witnessed some exhilarating cricket across the first four Test matches in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The fifth and final Test gets underway on Friday, January 3, at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). However, fans might be deprived of some of the action, especially if the match goes on till Day 5.

According to a report from Wisden Cricket, there is a possibility of rain affecting play on the last couple of days of the Test match. The upcoming encounter will be the first Test match played by both teams in the new year. Also, this Test match holds special significance as it marks the 'Jane McGrath Day', the wife of legendary Australian speedster Glenn McGrath who lost her life after battling cancer.

As per Google Weather, the match is set to begin on Day 1 under a thick covering of clouds. There is a 25 per cent chance of rain but it drops down to five per cent on Day 2. Bright and sunny weather is expected to greet the players on the second and third days of the Test match. Temperatures on these two days can get into the mid-thirties. Rain is expected to kick in after the end of Day 4 and go on overnight. A constant drizzle could disrupt play on Day 5.

According to BBC Weather, there could be some rain on Friday afternoon. During the weekend, the forecast looks promising. On Monday night, there is an alarming 68 per cent chance of rain. However, Day 4 should not have too many rain interruptions. Day 5, on the other hand, is likely to have heavy showers throughout the day.

India are in desperate need of a win in the final Test match for various reasons. Apart from avoiding a series defeat, a win in Sydney will help the Asian giants retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit Sharma and Co. will also stay afloat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final race with a victory at the picturesque SCG.
