Australia enjoyed a thorough domination on Day 1 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against South Africa. They skittled the visitors for just 189 runs picking up last five wickets for just 10 in a space of four overs. However, the Aussies are fretting over a possible injury for their ace pace bowler Mitchell Starc. The lanky left-arm pacer injured his finger while attempting a diving catch at long on during the day's play.

The ball brushed his finger before going towards the boundary. Soon he went off the field with the physio looking after Starc and remained out of action for around 30 minutes. Starc later returned to the field but with tapes on his finger and didn't bowl either thanks to Cameron Green. The latter picked up his maiden five-wicket haul to leave South Africa in tatters after a terrific stand between Marco Jansen and Kyle Verreynne.

Meanwhile, according to a report in West Australian, Mitchell Starc has been sent for scans to assess the extent of his injury. It remains to be seen now if he will be able to bowl in the second innings. He picked up two wickets in the first innings and looked in good rhythm as well. Australia will be hoping that the injury is not as serious and the cricketer takes part in the rest of the Test match.

Australia end the day at 45/1

As far as the day's play is concerned, it was all Australia written on it. Despite winning a good toss, South Africa batters yet again batted poorly giving away an early advantage. While their skipper Dean Elgar got run-out while looking for a needless single, the rest of the top five didn't really look settled in the middle. At 67/5, it literally looked curtains for them only for Jansen and Verreynne to stitch a valuable partnership.

However, once the 112-run stand was broken, the Proteas collapsed yet again, much to the disappointment of their fans. In response, Australia lost Usman Khawaja early but David Warner, in his 100th Test, has looked confident in the middle batting on 32. The hosts are still 144 runs behind South Africa's first innings score and will be looking to take a big lead.
