AUS-W vs IND-W 2024: India name 16-member squad, no place for Shafali Verma

The Women’s Selection Committee has picked the Team India Women squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. The first two ODIs will be held at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane before the action shifts to WACA Ground, Perth for the final match of the series, which is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

As usual, the team will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, whereas ace opener Smriti Mandhana will continue to be her deputy. Mandhana's long-time opening partner, Shafali Verma, has not been able to make the cut in the 16-woman squad. On the other hand, youngsters like Priya Punia, Saima Thakor, and Tejal Hasabnis will be flying down under for the series starting Thursday, December 05.

Uma Chetry* and Richa Ghosh are the couple of wicketkeeper-batters earmarked for the tour. Chetry's is a late inclusion as a like-for-like replacement for Yastika Bhatia, who has been ruled out of the series with a wrist injury.

Speaking more about the ODI series schedule, the series opener will be played on December 05 in Brisbane, which will be followed by the second encounter at the same venue three days later. The third and final fixture of the series will be hosted on December 11, and the historic WACA Ground in Perth is set to host the high-octane clash where the Women in Blue take on the Aussies before concluding the tour.
