Star Australia skipper Pat Cummins has recently come forward to announce a huge career shift as he announced that he has signed a new book deal. Teaming up with HarperCollins, Cummins will be creating a range of books that will be designed to entertain readers of all ages.
The range will contain an illustrated series of children, a picture book, and a nonfiction book as well. The range of books is due for publication in October 2024, and the series will be called Howzat Pat and will be aimed at children aged eight and older.
The series will follow a trio of friends navigating friendship, fitting in, teamwork, leadership, and many more topics. It is also worth noting that the nonfiction book is in development with award-winning writer Ben Mckelvey, will primarily be focused on contemporary leadership and decision-making, and should be out by Christmas 2024.
I loved the adventure of a good book: Cummins
Furthermore, Pat Cummins also came forward to talk about his early life and how his parents always encouraged him to read a good book. He reflected on the fact that everyone in his family was an admirer of a good book, and now that he has his own little family, he wants to instill the same habit in his kids.
“Life was busy with school, sport and family. Mum was a maths teacher, who was always curious about the world and loved reading, dad was always reading too when he wasn’t watching cricket or listening to Bruce Springsteen,” Pat Cummins was quoted as saying by news.com.au.
“For as long as I can remember on family holidays on those long car trips, you would find us kids diving into a novel, I loved the adventure of a good book, just as much as I loved backyard cricket with my older brothers or being at the beach. Now that I have my own young family, I want to encourage that combined love of sport, adventure and reading in my son Albie and in all Australian kids, with my children’s publishing program,” he added.
