After covid derailed the plans of the Chappell-Hadlee series in 2020, both the teams took some time to finally play the much anticipated series. In 2020, only the first ODI was played at SCG before New Zealand left Australia in the middle of a pandemic. Now, two years later, when the world is in a much better place, the two Southernmost cricketing nations are set to battle it out in Australia.
Now, after a disappointing defeat in the final ODI versus Zimbabwe, team Australia will aim to return back to form against the mighty Kiwis. Led by Captain Kane Williamson, the team recently defeated West Indies 2-1 in the One Day series and will now battle it out against Australia to gain confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup.
The hosts won the ODI series pretty comfortably against Zimbabwe but their batting collapse in the third ODI hurt the team. Against the deadly bowlers of New Zealand, they’ll once again be tested. David Warner has been in sensational form lately and the team management will hope that the southpaw will continue the way he does. Mitch Marsh will miss the series following his injury while Pat Cummins has been given rest against New Zealand. Travis Head will also miss the series as his partner Jess is due to give birth to their child.
Coming to New Zealand, captain Kane Williamson’s form has been a matter of discussion. The 32-year-old didn’t play a lot of ODIs in the last two years as well. Before the T20 World Cup, fans across the globe are praying for him to return back to his best. Meanwhile, other batters did play some good knocks lately. Bowling has been their strength and it is expected to test the Aussie batters.
