‘Australia’s obsession…’ - Tom Moody slams Australia after disappointing Day 2 in Nagpur
India are leading by 144 runs after second day of the Test match with 321 runs on board, for the loss of 7 wickets
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has slammed the Australian side after they struggled on Day 2 of the Nagpur Test against India. The hosts ended the day with a 144-run lead with set batters, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel still at the crease. India are currently on 321/7 at Stumps on Day 2 after Australia were bowled out for just 177 on Day 1.
The Indian skipper looked in fine touch and scored 120 runs off 212 deliveries with 15 fours and two sixes. Rohit played proper cricketing strokes and rotated strike on a consistent basis on a pitch where other batters struggled to score big.
“Australia’s obsession of what might be, instead of focusing on playing what’s in front of them, has weighed heavily,” the former Sri Lanka coach and the current Director of Cricket of Sri Lanka Cricket stated in a Tweet after the stumps on Day 2.
Ravindra Jadeja, who took five wickets in the first innings joined the skipper after the hosts were 186 for 5. The world’s number one Test all-rounder then went on to score a half-century, which included a 61-run stand with the skipper for the sixth wicket. Jadeja was then joined by Axar Patel, and are unbeaten on 66 and 52 respectively adding 81 runs for the eighth wicket. Jadeja scored nine boundaries, while Axar played 102 balls, smashing eight.
Australia’s right-arm off-spinner Todd Murphy came out as a lone warrior for the visitors, taking five wickets on his debut Test and conceding 82 runs in 36 overs. He took crucial wickets of KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and KS Bharat. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon shared a wicket each.
