Babar Azam can lead Pakistan for next five to ten years: Stuart Law

After losing to India in their first game of the 2022 T20 World Cup, Babar Azam’s future as the leader of the Pakistan cricket team was questioned as former cricketers like Mohammad Hafeez and Salim Malik openly criticised some of the decisions he took against India on October 23. First, of them was, of course, the decision to keep left-arm off-spinner Mohammad Nawaz for the 20th over against the in-form Indian batters. 

Now, as per the record, Babar Azam has led Pakistan in 90 international matches and won 56 out of them. His record in T20I cricket is great as he has a more than 50% win record in the shortest format of the game and a 50% win record in ODI cricket too. Thus, he has been a successful leader for Pakistan in the recent past. Stuart Law, former Australia cricketer thus sees no one who can replicate that and believes Babar can continue as the captain of the team for the next five to ten years.

“The only one you can consider is Mohammad Rizwan but I’m personally reluctant to give it to a wicket-keeper. They already have enough on their plate. It’s the toughest job on the park and to captain a side is also very difficult. It has to be someone from outside the group or someone next in line who’s sitting in the wings and gonna be a fantastic player but at the moment, the players that are there, Babar Azam is gonna take it for another five to ten years,” said Law on BatBricks7 presents 'Run ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.

Babar Azam takes stunner at slip to dismiss Regis Chakabva

Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Thursday took a stunner to dismiss Regis Chakabva for a golden duck in the 24th match of the 2022 T20 World Cup. The 35-year-old edged it to the slips as Babar Azam dived to his right to pluck a magnificent catch off Shadab Khan’s delivery.

Now, despite a brilliant start to their innings, the middle order collapsed as Zimbabwe posted 130 on board after 20 overs. Being a must-win game for the Men in Green, Pakistan would hope to win it by a comfortable margin as they need to keep an eye on the net run rate as well.
