Babar Azam has got a great batting temperament and has the ability to take the game away from you: Mitchell Starc
"Babar is kind of in the upper echelon of the batters at the moment around the world, so it will be satisfying if you get him out," Cummins said.
Ahead of Australia’s three-match Test series against Pakistan, their bowling unit sang praises of Babar Azam, who can prove to be a massive threat for the home team. Regarded as one of the modern-day greats, the 29-year-old has six Test centuries against Australia, which includes a double ton in Karachi. Hence, the Pat Cummins-led side is aware of the threat he can pose and is ready for the challenge.
Meanwhile, ace pacer Mitchell Starc has lauded the former Pakistan skipper and stated that Babar has got a great batting temperament and has the calibre to take the game away from the opponent’s hands. He believes that the Lahore-born cricketer can be ultra-aggressive and thus, wants to keep him quiet in the upcoming series.
“Babar Azam has got a great batting temperament and has got all the shots. He can build an inning and can also be ultra-aggressive. Babar has the ability to take the game away from you. He's one of the best and we hope to keep Babar quiet on this tour," Starc was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Babar doesn't have too many weaknesses: Pat Cummins
Australia skipper Pat Cummins too lauded Babar and mentioned that he doesn’t have too many weaknesses. He believes that the team needs to work hard to pick up his wicket in the upcoming series and added that it will be extremely satisfactory for the team to pick up his wicket, given the amount of talent he possesses.
“Babar doesn't have too many weaknesses. He has pretty tight technique and can score all around the ground. He is going to be hard work. He is kind of in the upper echelon of the batters at the moment around the world, so it will be satisfying if you get him out,” Cummins said.
Notably, in the warm-up game against Prime Minister XI, Babar scored 40 runs as Pakistan declared on 391/9. Their bowling unit looked pale in the absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim Jr. as the match ended on level terms.
