BAN vs IND 2022: Shakib Al Hasan sent to hospital for scans ahead of first Test
The first Test of the two-match series starts on December 14 in Chattogram.
Following the ODI series win against team India, hosts Bangladesh are set to lock horns with India in a two-match Test series. As per reports, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan is suffering with a stiff back ahead of the red-ball contest in Chattogram.
On the eve of the Test series, the Bangla Tigers skipper was sent to the hospital on Tuesday morning for a check-up. "It is nothing serious. Since there were no other transportation available so he was sent by ambulance. He had some stiffness and he went for a check up,” a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told The Daily Star.
The check-up was done to assess if there was any muscle problem in his back. However, there appears to be no fear of a major injury as the medical team has handed the green signal to the star all-rounder for his participation in the contest.
This comes after the skipper was hit by Umran Malik’s delivery on his back during the recently concluded ODI series. While Shakib was feeling pain during the practice sessions, the management decided to assess the condition by getting X-ray scans to determine his condition. Notably, he did not practice much during the net sessions to not aggravate the back issue.
While Shakib has received the green signal to play the red-ball fixture, the same cannot be said for India skipper Rohit Sharma, who picked up a thumb injury during the second ODI match. KL Rahul has been named as the leader of the side, whereas, veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara joins him as the deputy of the team as per the updated squad list by BCCI in Rohit's absence.
India will look for results in their favour in the two-match Test series against the Bangla Tigers as they are still in contention for a spot in the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.
