BAN vs IND: Cheteshwar Pujara set to surpass Don Bradman milestone in Test cricket
Cheteshwar Pujara scored 6984 runs from 97 matches in Test cricket
India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara is on the verge of surpassing the legendary Don Bradman in the tally of most runs in Test cricket history. Pujara, who has 6984 runs in red-ball cricket needs only 12 runs to topple the Australian great.
The top-order batter is currently engaged in a Test series against Bangladesh where he was prolific in both innings. In the first, he amassed 90 runs while scoring a brilliant century in the second innings. Courtesy of his brilliant batting, India declared with a lead of 512 which the Bangladesh team eventually failed to chase and lost the match by 188 runs. His century in the second innings is also Pujara’s fastest in international cricket.
Now, the second Test of the series is scheduled to begin on Thursday, December 22 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. With Rohit Sharma not available for selection, the 34-year-old will once again serve as KL Rahul’s deputy in the match. Indian team is also expected not to make any changes after a tremendous win at Chattogram. With the World Test Championship in mind, the side will look to get the win and cement their position in the second spot of the points table.
In the meantime, with the sensational ton in the first Test, Pujara has toppled Dilip Vengsarkar to become the eighth leading run-scorer for India in the longest format of the game. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is currently 228 runs ahead of him but given his current form, the cricketer will definitely eye to surpass Ganguly in the upcoming Test against Bangla Tigers.
