BAN-W vs IND-W: India suffer major blow as Harmanpreet Kaur gets retired hurt after being struck on hand

India won the T20 series against Bangladesh after securing victories in the first two matches. The 'Women in Blue' lost the third T20I though. Bangladesh took confidence from the win and started the ODI series with an epic 40-run victory against India in a rain-curtailed encounter.

The two teams are currently playing in the second ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday, July 19. Nigar Sultana won the toss and invited the tourists to bat first. Priya Punia and Yastakia Bhatia departed early but captain Harmanpreet Kaur, coming into bat at 40/2, showed a lot of grit and determination in the must-win encounter for India. On a difficult pitch to bat on, Kaur played sensibly and scored 48 runs in 80 balls.

Her innings came to a halt in an unfortunate way as she was hit on her hand. In the 36th over of the match, the 34-year-old completed a quick single. However, a throw from the fielder hit her on her hand. The physio came out to give her some medical attention. She resumed batting but just after a couple of balls, the excruciating pain got the better of her, and she was forced to walk off the field.

Harmanpreet Kaur returns to bat

Jemimah Rodrigues notched up a fluent half-century when she majestically drove Marfa Akter for a boundary in the 41st over. The talented youngster got to her fifty in just 56 balls.

Harleen Deol came in to bat after Harmanpreet left the field. She gave Jemimah good support as the duo stitched a 57-run partnership. Deol departed in the 47th over and captain Kaur walked out to bat, much to the joy of the Indian fans. The experienced campaigner registered her half-century in the 48th over.

India eventually finished with a score of 228 runs in their stipulated 50 overs. On a tough batting pitch, this could actually prove to be a very good score as the visitors hope to restore parity in the series.
